New York Fashion Week is officially over today and while it’s bittersweet I’m sure my feet are quite happy about it.
If you’re like me then the obsessions with street style is real. Maybe just as much as my lust for everything that comes down the runway-maybe. Nonetheless I’m always excited to see what the attendees are wearing and how they’re wearing their most prized possessions. Because after all…you only come to NYFW to slaayyy. Amirite?!
Today, I’m going to show you three ways to master NYFW street style! And don’t worry-I take a very simplistic approach because after all less is always more.
NYFW is all about stepping outside of your comfort zone while still remaining true to your personal style. Personally I didn’t have any time to go shopping or to even plan my outfits. Shocking, I know. So the task at hand was trickier than usual, but I didn’t let that stop me and neither should you!
- Layer Unusual Pieces: This all depends on how “crazy” you’re willing to get but try layering pieces that you really wouldn’t wear together. It gives a very fashion forward feel without looking like you tried too hard. For this look I paired my turtleneck dress over a crisp white pair of denim. It’s not something I’ve done before but when I put it on I was like ohhhhkaayyyy *insert emoji* The dress is a bit boxy so by adding a belt around the waist you get to show off your curves (or create them)! The winter in New York is no joke (hello 0 degrees) so you’ll thank me later.
- Focus on Color Schemes: If you’re starting to experiment with your personal style then the best thing to do is to play around with colors. Find out which color palettes compliment your complexion and which tones make you feel good. Creating a street style worthy look is as good as you feel so make sure you rock the ish out of that outfit! As you know, I’m a neutrals lover. I’m either in light soft tones or all black-There’s no in between for me. Clearly light neutrals won for Day 1.
- Killer Accessories: If you do nothing else make sure that you’re accessories stand out! These are the items that people are usually drawn to first in the winter because you’re hiding all the goods under a massive coat. My favorite accessory is my cat-eye sunglasses (only $10!) because they’re chic and statement worthy. Pair it was a structured bag and printed shoes and you’re good to go! If you’re like me and prefer simple and neutral looks try making your shoes the statement. Get creative and shop for shoes with classic prints and colors. They’ll draw attention and are also a great conversation starter!
And there you have it! My 3 simple ways to master a NYFW street style outfit. Just make sure you’re practicing your poses for the photogs *wink*
