There’s something about a Monday that seems so refreshing. It’s a fresh start to a new week. The chance to do it even bigger and better.
Trust me…I didn’t always think this way.
That joy usually comes from a relaxing weekend-ya know, the one where you get some Vitamin D, try some delicious new food, create new memories, or even just having the time to do absolutely nothing. You know which one I’m talking about, right? And while we all love this refreshed and positive approach to Monday’s-I think it’s important to try to look at everyday with this mindset.
Now let’s be real. I would be kidding you if I told you I was Positive Polly 24/7 or even almost everyday. Life is real and there are good days just as there are bad days, but as I’m getting older I’m realizing it’s how you (or in this case, I) deal with those moments. This journey I’ve been on after leaving my full-time job (did I mention secure, and very comfortable job?) back in October has been very eye-opening to some harsh realities, but also to the beauty of seeing myself grow. So after a handful of self-doubt & almost-giving up moments I’ve decided to put an end to them. Today, I’m sharing some of my ways to staying positive and motivated!
Side note: YOU are the only one that controls your mood and your outlook on life!
But how do you do that? Well, I’ve realized that like most things in life it’s all about balance. The weeks that I feel more productive and motivated are the ones where I incorporate some peace of mind into my routine. Unfortunately, sometimes it seems like there aren’t enough hours in the day but make it a point to make time. Remember that this shouldn’t add stress to your day-to-day…if it does figure out a different approach and start over again. Alright, let’s get into it!
1. Go Outside! There’s nothing more relaxing than breathing in some fresh air. I’ve made it a point to take quick breaks throughout my day so I can let my eyes rest from staring at a computer screen. As long as the weather is nice I’ll step outside and just sit still. There’s something so soothing about just listening to everything around you.
Umm how gorgeous are these earrings?
2. Read a Book! I’m a sucker for a murder mystery novel (comment below if you love James Patterson!), but lately I’ve really been into inspirational books like Leave Your Mark, Girl Boss, and Say What’s Real. They offer great advice and give me that little extra push when I need it. I’ve made it a point to read one chapter from my current book before bed-which means no iPhone! *gasp* But since I started doing it I feel refreshed and motivated when I wake up!
3. Exercise! It’s important to incorporate some physical activity into your routine. Aside from any weight-loss desired goals it’s important just for your overall health so try things that you love. Once you look at it as a hobby and not necessarily a goal or punishment *haha* then you will start to enjoy it. I’m currently working on getting back into doing the Couch to 5k. I hate running, but using this app it allows me to get there and I only do it 3x a week! Zumba is another favorite of mine because I can get some dancing in and sweat out those toxins! (That’s me “running” haha)
4. Laugh!!! After all, life is about living and how the heck do you do that without laughing? It does the soul a lot (and I mean a lot!) of good! I can be a very serious person sometimes, but I love to laugh. I have a very loud and obnoxious laugh, but boy does it feel good to just let loose and let it all out. I was actually laughing at myself earlier while I was driving (yes, I do that) because I was thinking of all the times that I’ve worn heels and fell (there’s a lot). My most embarrassing one was probably when I fell down the stairs at the Ronkonkoma LIRR station. It was around 1:30 am on a Friday or Saturday night and we just got back from Penn so you know there was a lot of people. I must have lost my balance and stumbled down 4-6 steps and landed in front of everyone. The funniest part was it felt like I was falling in slow motion and my friend even tried to catch me-clearly it didn’t work out. So yeah, hopefully that gave you a giggle.
Simple, right? I think the best way is to just try to incorporate one new thing that you love doing in your routine. Before you know it it will become part of your routine. What do they say-it takes 30 days to form a habit?
Looks like you better get started *wink*
Oh, and let me know some of your favorite things that you enjoy doing!
Happy Monday beauties!
