Did you miss me?! I decided to take a well needed break last week to celebrate my birthday, anniversary, and Garry’s birthday.
Yes, a lot to celebrate *haha*.
But, I’m back and wanted to start by sharing how I clean my makeup brushes. Usually I wouldn’t think to even share this, but I was talking to one of my girlfriends and she mentioned one of my snaps. She wanted to know why I cleaned my brushes so much and then she followed it by saying she didn’t even know she was suppose to clean her makeup brushes. So it hit me-maybe I should share how and why I clean my brushes.
To be honest this wasn’t something that I knew for awhile either. I started playing with makeup way before YouTube videos were readily available (or actually even existed) so this type of information wasn’t as accessible. The most important reason as to WHY you SHOULD clean your makeup brushes is for the mere fact that it has bacteria on it. Your face carries bacteria and dead skin cells which transfer to your brush when you apply it so it’s very important to clean them frequently. Think about using your brushes daily while your swirling around new and old bacteria over your beautiful face. Yes, this could be a reason you’re suffering from acne. We only get one skin so it’s important for us to take care of it as much as we can and that means keeping it clean!
My go-to/must have/holy grail cleaner is the Beauty Blender solid. I discovered this last year and one of my friends wouldn’t stop raving about it so I had to try it. I”M HOOKED! This cleanser made it super easy and quick. It used to take me at least an hour to clean them and this cut it in half. I have a lot of brushes. Alright, let’s get into how I clean my makeup brushes.
- 1st Step: I keep an empty makeup brush holder and I’ll put in my dirty makeup brushes as I use them. This helps me differentiate my dirty and clean brushes. When I’m ready to clean my brushes (usually every Sunday or Monday night) I will take them out and lay them in some type of order. I usually start with my eye brushes and work my way to my face brushes.
- 2nd Step: Take the first brush and hold it under warm water. Just enough to wet the bristles and then dip it into the Beauty Blender solid. I swirl it around a couple of times and you will start to see the product come off.
- 3rd Step: Then I take the little mat that it comes with and swirl the bristles on it while running it under water. It’s important to not soak the entire brush under the water because you don’t want the water to loosen the handle.
- 4th Step: Use your hands and ring out the excess water. You’ll know the brush is clean once the water is clear and you no longer see anymore product in it. If you continue to see product then I just swirl it one more time in the cleanser and repeat Step 3. I use the same technique with the beauty blender except I use my hands to squeeze out the product.
- 5th Step: Finally, I lay them down on a clean towel. I make sure to give them a gentle squeeze so the natural shape takes place while they dry. I prefer doing this at night because I wake up to CLEAN brushes and THAT is a great feeling!
