If you’re on any type of social media platform then selfies are quite the norm. And let’s be honest…they’re fun to take when you’re feeling that makeup or outfit. Ya know what I’m sayingg.
Instagram is a visual platform and it’s probably the reason that I love it so much. It allows your vision to be shared with the world-unfiltered or edited to that max. The choice is always yours! Today, I wanted to share some of my selfie editing tips that I’ve learned along the way. Be sure to use #lovegreyskies if you learned something from this post on your new selfie! I’ll be reposting on Twitter!
This is the unedited selfie right from my iPhone 6. I like to just do very basic editing to enhance my features and make the photo pop. So let’s get started!
First, I go into Afterlight and adjust the contrast, saturation, and brightness. The level of intensity depends on the photo so just keep adjusting until you’re happy with how it looks! I like to adjust the contrast a little as well as the saturation to add some color into my skin (hey, it’s winter!). I like to keep my photos pretty bright so I try to go as high as possible before it starts to wash out.
Then I go into FaceTune and use the Smooth tool on my face. This just gives it a more airbrushed finish and I love the way it looks. Just be careful not to get too crazy. If I have something on that I want to stand out (like my rings) then I use the detail feature.
Last, but not least I go into VSCO Cam. I downloaded a bunch of filters. Some are paid for and some are free but there are SO many to choose from. I personally love C1, HB1, M6, and S1. I used HB1 for this photo.

Trust me, you don’t need all these apps to edit your selfies. This is just the process that I developed. Most, if not all, of these techniques can be found in Afterlight or VSCO.
