Effortless weekends are my favorite.
And what’s better than pairing it with an effortless (but just as stylish) look for weekend brunch? I came across this dress at Old Navy in Brooklyn after the Kevin Hart “What Now” tour. Why would I be shopping after a comedy show? Funny thing you asked.
After arriving at the Barclay’s center I decided that it would be a good idea to go to the restroom prior to the show. Makes complete sense. I was wearing a Forever 21 jumpsuit (check it out on my IG)-which I had only worn once prior to. So, I go to zip it back up and the zipper doesn’t want to go. Yes, the nervous sweating started at this point. My friend was with me so I asked if she could zip it up and she tried. Keyword: tried. No luck. Then the worst thing happened…the zipper split! You know when it just won’t go up or down and the zipped part just opens up? Yup, that happened. Thank God I brought my moto jacket with me so it at least covered up most of my (now) exposed back. I spent the rest of the night holding the bottom portion of my jumper so I didn’t moon anyone. It’s okay-you can go ahead and laugh. I did.
Clearly an emergency shopping trip was in order. Maybe it was fate? So I barged through Old Navy scouring the racks to find a completely new outfit and that’s when I came across this baby. It caught my eye and for some reason I wanted to try it on. I’m thinking it was the khaki color. It’s becoming an obsession. Normally I would stray away from shift dresses because they make me look wider and I feel like I’m wearing a garbage bag. With that being said, I proceeded to pick up a pair of jeans and khaki top for plan B.
To my surprise, I l-o-v-e-d the way it looked! It actually made me feel very Carrie Bradshaw-ish and I’m not sure why. Maybe it was the curly lob or my silver t-strap sandals, but it worked. And trust me-I was not complaining one bit! So now I have a new dress and I already envisioned a variety of ways to wear it.
Moral of the story? If you find something that piques your interest in the slightest way-try it on! You never know how you’ll feel about it and it will help you step outside of your comfort zone. Plus, how else do you expect your personal style to evolve if you don’t try?
I hope you have an amazing weekend!
