Whoever said “don’t wear white after labor day” clearly didn’t appreciate the chicness of it *flips hair*
Rules are meant to be broken (well in fashion-let’s not get crazy!) and wearing white after Labor Day is no exception. I mean if Coco Chanel could wear white all year round then why can’t we?! The best thing about wearing white is instant chicness (seriously) so it’s going to immediately make you feel more confident and good about yourself. I don’t know about you, but that’s a pretty good thing to feel!
Today, I’m going to give you three tips on how and why you should wear white after Labor Day.
It’s no secret that I’m a curvy woman and usually that scares us from wearing white. I used to feel like it made me look wider and frumpy, but that was because I didn’t know how to find clothes that complimented my curves. Once I started experimenting I got way more comfortable with wearing white and now it’s one of my staple colors. So how did I figure it out? Well, good thing you asked because I’m going to tell you!
Cropped Sweaters: Now you must think I’m crazy. Cropped sweaters for curvy women?? It’s probably one of the biggest questions that I get emails about, but curvy women CAN wear cropped sweaters. Psh, you can wear whatever you want-it’s just how you wear it. The waist is usually your smallest section (or more defined) so why not accentuate it? This textured cropped sweater from Bellarte Clothing was perfect for this look because it falls right at my waist. The best way to compliment the look is by pairing it with a midi skirt. It hugs the waist perfectly and shows off those curves!
Textured Pieces: If you feel that wearing all white can be too plain-Jane then don’t worry. That’s what textures are for! I love combining textured pieces more than I do with prints. Clearly I’m a basic pieces kinda girl. The texture in the sweater gives the look more dimension while complimenting the floral lace in the skirt. Adding textured pieces to an all white look give it more of a luxe feel, which is also great if you don’t have the budget to shell out big bucks for higher-end pieces. Remember-“Fashion is what you buy. Style is what you do with it”
Pops of Color & Prints: Is white too boring for you? Well let’s have fun with it! Since it’s fall I love incorporating more fall-like colors into my wardrobe. And that’s exactly what I did with this collared overcoat. The burgundy is a very rich color so it contrasts perfectly against the white making a very bold and chic statement. Feeling adventurous? Add a pop of leopard! I paired these leopard pumps with the look for a more street-style feel. The best part of an all white look is that you can wear it numerous ways with accessories. And yes, a coat is an accessory.
It may seem like a lot of trial and error, but trust me you’ll feel that much better once you find your go-to pieces. Another reason why I believe we should wear white after Labor Day? After reading up the meaning I found out that it was a silly rule that “prestigious” women made up in order to distinguish themselves. Hence, if you weren’t aware of the “rule” and you wore white outside of summer then you would be outcasted. Silly, right? We should be empowering each other to be themselves not tear each other down because we’re not wearing the latest trend. Rules like this destroy the beauty of fashion. So go ahead, wear white after Labor Day (or don’t) and just be you!
