If I ever had to choose what color palette to wear for the rest of my life-it would be a close call between light neutrals and all black.
I mean, can you blame me?
There is something that is so refreshing and light about neutrals. And let’s not forget instantly chic. We’re all well aware thanks to Ms. Pope. This was a look that I wore a few weeks and I immediately fell in love with how it came out. I know I might sound like a broken record, but honestly I l o v e simple looks. The key is to finding pieces that are simple yet have a little something extra.
Today, I wanted to share an outfit breakdown as to why this outfit seems effortlessly chic. Trust me-it didn’t happen on its own.
Sometimes we don’t even think about what we’re throwing on. We’ve had just enough time to shower and towel dry before we’re pulling the shirt over our head and checking email while pouring coffee. Yeah, those kinds of mornings. But like any good thing-outfits do require some thought. The good ones at least.
Personally, if I know I’m going to be pressed for time in the morning then I do my best to pick out my outfit the night before. It gives me enough time to really think about what I want my outfit to say (depending on what I’ll be doing) and I can search around for some inspo. Thank God for Pinterest! But let’s get into why this outfit works!
There are 3 key pieces that work together to create this effortlessly chic. Can you guess what they are?
- Color Palette: Yes! The colors are one of the key elements for this look. I gave it away in the beginning *laughs* But it’s so important to have an overall color palette in mind when picking out a look. Even for those bold, bright, or patterned looks. Light neutrals will instantly scream chic (and spring too!) so if you’re ever not sure what you want to wear then gravitate towards them and you’ll be good to go!
- Turtlenecks: I know- I can’t stop talking about them. But do you see why? If I would have paired this look with a regular tee it would not have the same effect. The turtleneck provides another chic factor. Plus, this one from H&M is very light so it’s great for layering at the office. I get hot and cold very easily so I need to be able to adjust accordingly. There’s nothing I can’t stand more than being uncomfortable while working. Just get on the turtleneck bandwagon already!
- Collared Coats: Now here’s where Olivia Pope came into play. She’s the queen of oversized (yet fitted enough) chicness. The overflowing collar really adds a lot to the overall look yet it’s just a simple coat. Details…it’s always in the details. The collar makes a statement on its own so don’t worry if you skip out on the jewelry.
Hopefully you enjoyed this outfit breakdown! Let me know what you think and if you want to see some more. I’m always intrigued about someone’s thought process when they pick out an outfit so I figured I would share my own.
Do you guys have a specific thought process when planning outfits? Or are you more of the get dressed on a whim type?
