This look was actually suppose to be a NYFW outfit, but the snow decided to derail my plans for that day. That’s what happens when you live in the eastern boondocks and inclement weather along with public transportation are involved *haha*. Anyways, I still love this look because I’m wearing this vintage oversized sequined blazer. I’ve never worn anything vintage so I thought it would be a great post to share especially since it’s not my actual size.
Don’t be fooled. I can’t take credit for finding this baby. I was actually raiding my mother’s closet one day when I came across it. It immediately caught my eye because of all the detailed sequins. It felt so luxurious and it’s heavvyyy. I checked the size and instantly felt a saddened emotion come over me when I realized it was a 2x. Trust me, if you love clothes as much as I do then this feeling is all too real. It’s probably why my mother has never worn it. So I hung it back up and then went on with my day.
Fun fact: I secretly love shoulder pads.

It wasn’t until I was running out of options for NYFW that I remembered this glorious blazer. And I thought-How can I make this work for me? I didn’t have time to take a trip to the seamstress. And it suddenly clicked. Just drape it over my shoulders!
I was going through an all-black phase during NYFW so this look was definitely inspired by that. I wanted to mix a more modern/trendy look with this beautiful vintage blazer so I opted for this sheer maxi dress. My favorite part about this dress is the slit. I love how you get glimpses of the legs and shoes while the dress flows behind you. And the blazer just adds the perfect finishing touch. Yes, it’s way too big but you can hardly tell once it sits on my shoulders. I actually preferred the shoulders pads to be kept in because it helps with giving a more structured look rather than just hugging my shoulders.
Just remember that if you’re ever in a rut similar to this then you can find a way to make it work. All you have to do is get a little creative and try until you find something that you love! Or go to Pinterest for some inspo.
What do you think; yay or nay?
P.S. Don’t forget to check out the fun project I worked on with Buzzfeed!
