It can’t be a celebration without cupcakes, balloons, and fancy skirts? Could it?
Well, at least not for me. One whole year is a big milestone for me. Mostly because I didn’t think anything would come of it at first. I used to just experiment with my writing and have fun. I use to have Xanga (remember that?) then I had a blog called Diamonds Are Forever (don’t ask) followed by A Flicker of Fashion. Now do you get it?
When I think about the inspiration behind Love, Grey Skies I think of all of you. Whether you’re my friend or a fellow blogger buddy or just a reader-you have all inspired me at some point and made your way into Love, Grey Skies. But what about before then? Before there was a Love, Grey Skies?
Often, I get asked “Why did you name it Love, Grey Skies” and it makes sense. It’s not a title that is necessarily affiliated with fashion (like A Flicker of Fashion), which could sometimes be a marketing disaster from a branding point of view. But, as I think back to that moment-the one where it all began for us-it just seemed like the perfect fit.
The first blog that I ever found was years ago and it was called Karla’s closet. I randomly stumbled upon it while I was browsing for some style looks at an old job. I was obsessed with her style and loved her don’t-care attitude. It was refreshing to see a real person share their day-to-day looks and to gather inspiration from it. But at that time I didn’t know what a blog was or what it meant. Now, let’s fast forward a few years down the road to A Flicker of Fashion. The blogging world picked up and it was rolling along grabbing anyone who wanted to join in on this new-found platform.
I had finally agreed to let Garry take photos of me (believe it or not I am very shy!). The way that I saw it was that I was able to do the same thing as these other bloggers. I wanted to share my looks, tips and tricks with whoever wanted to listen. And so I did. I remember going around the block from my apartment and shooting some photos with an iPhone 4s (crazy, right?). I had titled the post “Grey Skies” just because that’s what it was outside; gloomy and grey-and I had grey in my outfit. But the blog post was so much more. It shared my passion, dreams, and determination and in that lied the beginning of this beautiful journey. Funny how things turn out.
Can we talk about this look that I put together from H&M? I’m obsessed with midi skirts lately and this was no exception. I love neutrals and this look just screamed romantic vibes. Date night anyone?
