One of the reasons that I started Love, Grey Skies was because I didn’t see myself represented in this online community. Of course it was a place for my creative freedom (and boy, have I grown a lot) but there weren’t that many girls that “represented” me. I’m short and have a whole lotta curves. As I grew with the blog I started to really appreciate those curves more and more and started finding other women who felt the same.
Fast forward to where we are now and there are so many great things happening in the fashion industry regarding size.
But, is it enough?
America’s Next Top Model rebranded and aired this past Monday. I was super excited to watch because this show comes at a time in my life where I can relate to these models. They focus on social media, branding, and of course being a model. Social media has changed the industry and I’m super excited to see where they take that perspective on the show. One of the things that struck the most with me in the promo video was that Ashley Graham was going to be a judge! The little girl inside of me rejoiced-a plus-size model on the judges panel?! It was like a dream come true.
Dress | Shoes | Earrings | Hat
As I started to watch I realized that they didn’t have any curvy or plus-size contestants. And then it hit me. We still have a long way to go.
I was disappointed because I wanted to see a representation of real models chasing their dreams. Whether that meant skinny, curvy or plus. There was so much diversity amongst the candidates except this one area. But being that Ashley Graham is a judge I assumed that they would have covered it. Hopefully we will see this in the future seasons.
How do you feel about it? Is it something that you would like to see?
