Now that summer is quickly approaching (there seems to be no in-between for us New Yorkers) what would be better than discussing another one of spring’s trend? Stripes! To me, stripes are more of a classic than a “trend”, but they do tend to make more of an appearance during the spring and summer. And certainly we can see why.
Have you heard that stripes aren’t for everyone? That curvy girls shouldn’t wear horizontal stripes because it will make you look wider? Well, in some cases (and I mean outfits) that very may well be true but not in all. So don’t shy away from this look if it’s speaking to you!
Stripes pretty much come in any color and style. Literally. So there is something for everyone! But how do you find what’s right for you? Like anything…a lot of trial and error, but with that comes learning and boy do I have some tips for you!
First, find a color palette that suits you. Mine is a classic black and white stripe. It’s very easy to mix and match other colors with. I also love white and navy blue stripes when I’m in a nautical mood. I especially love it with a pop of red, but for this look I decided to throw in a pastel pink Kate Spade bag. It keeps the look very spring-like and very soft and feminine.
Next, make sure that you find the piece of clothing that compliments your body. I’m very curvy and busty so stripes may not always be the most flattering thing to wear, but it’s how you wear it! I love wearing striped dresses, but midi length like this one. It elongates me without making me look wider because there’s more of the material. Shorter striped dresses tend to have the opposite effect on me. But you’re not limited to dresses. There are plenty of other striped pieces that look great like midi skirts, blouses, and even coats. This is one of my faves!
Style Tip: When wearing striped dresses-try to find ones with a slit. This will elongate your legs and give it more of a flattering and sexy feel. Show them legs girl!
Finally, add your accessories! I was feeling very Jackie O-esque (but on the modern side) and felt like these sunnies from ZeroUV were the perfect fit! I’m a bit obsessed with them right now. I decided to keep everything within the same color scheme so I opted for that beautiful pink bag and this floppy hat because how could it be spring without big ol’ floppy hats? Am I right? But you don’t have to play it safe. You can be bold and mix in different colors and even other prints. Stripes are a great pattern to mix with other prints because they are simple yet they make a statement.
Oh, and let’s not forget the shoes! I went for this season’s new trend; mule sandals. I know I mentioned them before, but I thought they went perfect with this look. They really modernized it and brought the look together. If you want to look even “slimmer” then I would opt for a pump. They elongate your legs and a chunkier heel can tend to close it off.
How do you guys feel about this trend for spring?
I hope you’re enjoying this fabulous Wednesday! I’ll be back tomorrow with another video *yay*
