I’m not sure when it happened, but for the longest time I’ve been in LOVE with blazers. Maybe it’s the statement they make or that it always reminded me of the strong working women in my life (a.ka. my mom and sister). Whatever the case was I soon found it making its way into my wardrobe.
But is it a wardrobe staple?
The short answer is yes. The long answer? Well, you have to keep reading to find out why YOU need this in your closet.
Note to self: Wearing white after Labor Day feels just as good as wearing it before *wink*.
Maybe you don’t work in an office or your dress code is super laid back. *sunglasses emoji* Well then I guess it wouldn’t make sense to own a blazer, right? Eh, not exactly.
Here are three reasons as to why you should own a blazer in your wardrobe:
1. Preparation: They say “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have” and that couldn’t be more true. Maybe you’re pulled in for a last minute meeting with your boss to discuss your results or maybe you land an interview for a better position. As long as you have a blazer in your wardrobe you won’t be flustered with the dressing part. It should give you a sense of security and confidence. The time you would spend looking for something to wear could easily be used to prepare interview questions or research interviewing techniques.
“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet” -Bobby Unser
2. Wearability: What’s better than being able to wear something multiple ways? That alone makes it a wardrobe staple! Personally I love wearing blazers with ripped jeans (obviously). If you’re a street style junkie then you’ve seen blazers everywhere and worn so many different ways. Dress them down and casual with a tee and flats or add these heels for a more glam vibe. Need to keep it professional? Add a blouse and some trousers and you’re all set. Three very different looks all centered around one piece!
“Style is a way of saying who you are without having to speak” -Rachel Zoe
3. Perception: The reason I love getting dressed in the morning is because it allows me to express myself-whatever mood that is. So what am I expressing when I wear my favorite blazer? I’m exuding confidence and strength. For years upon years the blazer was worn to make women look stiff just so that we could be considered to be opinionated like our male colleagues. But now it’s so much more. We get to OWN our looks and to feel EMPOWERED because we’re just as smart and deserving. So throw on that blazer and rock it!
So, do you still think a blazer isn’t a wardrobe staple? Let me know how you love wearing yours!

P.S. The blazer I wore is from Willow & Clay that I got on Bluefly but it’s sold out. I linked some similar options that are just as good-promise!
